Community Projects Update
So far, Refresh Gardens has been incredibly busy helping out within the local community. We have volunteered days helping with a wide range of work. As well as this, we have offered a variety of donations ranging from designs by our fantastic Ollie, to nearly 9 bulk bags worth of mulch donated to our local wildlife reserve!

Our voluntary days kicked off with a day helping out at the Raptor Foundation at Ramsey. This was a truly amazing experience as Ben was lucky enough to hang out with some awe inspiring birds. The staff at the Raptor Foundation share an incredible passion for the birds in their care which is highlighted by the fact that they look after some of the most dangerous birds in the world! The day began with helping clean out the bird house, followed by tidying up in between enclosures and ended with holding a lovely raptor. Not to forget the incredible lunch they offered to help keep Ben fueled. We highly recommend a visit here not just to see the fantastic work being done to help with raptors, but also because of the efforts being taken to minimise their impacts on climate change through keeping as much of their grounds green and full of local pollinators.

Furthering our voluntary work, we spent two full days helping to clear and maintain pathways at our local nature reserve, Fardels Lane Nature Reserve. This place holds a special place in our hearts as it is the very woods that Ben, Archie and Ollie grew up playing in so working here felt very full circle. The works completed included clearing away dead trees to promote the growth of new saplings; spreading mulch and wood chips over existing paths to help with accessibility; and making a new forest school area for Elsworth school to use. This work will be a continued effort from us to ensure that the woods remain accessible and healthy for as long as we can. A special mention must go to the Elsworth Parish Council for allowing us to work in these woods and for their continued efforts in keeping the woods alive and well.

Through Community Projects we hope to make people’s lives a little better in whatever way we can. In doing this, we offer Greenfingers whatever money we raise through village shows and other means of fundraising. Greenfingers are a wonderful charity who ensure that children in hospice care have access to gardens so they, and their families, can spend some time away from the bedside and outside enjoying themselves. We have raised over £500 so far and are hoping to go beyond the £2000 mark by the end of 2025. One of our customers helped massively with this through donating the cost of materials to Greenfingers whilst we renovated their front garden in a day. This meant a lot to us as it showed how our efforts to help out can inspire others to do the same.

Community Projects at Refresh involve more than just voluntary days and donations of materials. Ollie, our landscape designer, volunteered his time to donate a landscape design for the Wyboston Village Hall. This included a complete remodel of their outdoor space & carpark to improve accessibility, provide a low maintenance and sustainable space. As well as this, due to Ollie’s keen eye for design, it also included some wonderful new touches to make the days of those who frequent the hall a little brighter.
